Israel is roughly shaped like a triangle with its base along the Mediterranean Sea and its apex at the southern tip of the country. It stretches about 290 miles from north to south and 85 miles from west to east at its widest point. The country has a total area of approximately 8,550 square miles and is bordered by Lebanon to the north, Syria to the northeast, Jordan to the east, Egypt to the southwest, and the Mediterranean Sea to the west. The terrain of Israel includes mountains, valleys, plains, and desert regions, with the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth, situated in the east near the border with Jordan.
